As the border crisis began raging out of control once President Biden assumed office in 2021, Texas Governor Greg Abbott came up with a simple solution to put the crisis in the spotlight. People around the country continued claiming the situation was 'not that bad' and that Texans were being 'dramatic.' So, Abbott decided to start a bus program to ship those illegal immigrants to various Liberal cities in the country.
Since beginning the program in April 2022, the program has shipped over 45,000 to New York, 36,000 to Chicago, and about 30,000 combined to Denver, Washington DC, Philadelphia, and Los Angeles. Mind you, this was a voluntary program. There was no forced busing. Immigrants agreed to take the buses elsewhere.
In short, those self-proclaimed 'Sancturary cities' did not like it much having the immigrants on their doorstep. People in Martha's Vineyard famously began screaming to remove them within 24 hours of them being dropped off.
More than put the crisis in the spotlight in those cities, the program brought national attention to the matter. Now, according to recent polls, over 60 percent of the country supports mass deportations in some form. However, in recent months, the bus program has begun to fall apart, with fewer buses and illegals to send.
Former Texas State Senator Don Huffines says border crossings have dropped in the last few months, but it is in no way related to any security measures implemented by the administration.
"The Leftists in Washington have teamed up with Leftists in Mexico City...and told them to slow the invasion down until the election is over," he says.
That is precisely what they have done. Crossings have dropped thousands in the last few weeks. Mexico owes the administration, after all. They both made a secretive deal this year to 'address the crisis,' which included Biden caving to Mexican demands of dropping Venezuelan sanctions.
Illegal aliens have also run into some efforts from Texas, making the free flow into the state difficult. Miles of razor wire, increased patrols, and floating barriers have hampered the flow some, but not entirely. So, illegals have shifted their focus to crossing in liberal states like Arizona and California instead.
For years, Mexico has proclaimed they cannot control the border flow, and they have no way of enforcing the law. However, Huffines says this action blows their argument up.
"This proves Mexico can control the border anytime they want...they are really our biggest enemy," he says. "They have done more to undermine Texas and the United States than all our other enemies combined."
They have undermined us with drug trafficking, which kills hundreds of thousands due to Fentanyl overdoses. They have pushed criminals into our country which has led to an increase in murders, rapes, and robberies. But at the end of the day, Mexico has no real reason to stop the flow. The cartels own the country, government and all. They profit directly from an open border.
So, Texas needs to do something to stand up to the problem, more so than just razor wire and big words.
"We need to declare an economic war against the cartel-controlled government in Mexico," he says. "We can do that, too, unilaterally and stay out of the federal courthouse."
