Tropical Storm Milton Forms; May Hit Florida as Major Hurricane

Tropical Storm Milton has formed and is likely to intensify as it moves east across the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Hurricane Center says the system could impact the west coast of Florida in the Tampa metro area as a major category 3 hurricane in the middle of this coming week. This impact would come two weeks after Helene hit Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas.

Governor Ron DeSantis issued a state of emergency for at least 35 counties.

Officials are also tracking Hurricane Kirk in the Central Atlantic, Hurricane Leslie in the Eastern Atlantic and a tropical wave in the Eastern Atlantic.
