With 27 days to go until Election Day, Texas has surpassed the 18 million registered voter mark for the first time ever. Most are in the 'blue' counties, leading some on the left to wrongly believe that this means the state of Texas is turning 'blue'.
"We get these stories about every 2 to 4 years" said professor of political science at Rice University, Mark Jones, "The reality is, the Texas population is booming."
Growing, even faster than Florida, but not necessarily changing.
"Texas' population is growing, therefore it's number of registered voters is growing" Jones told KTRH, "Those registered voters though are more Latino and less white, but Republicans are doing better among Latino's than they were four years ago."
The Texas population is growing by about one million people every two years, with voter registration up almost 9% since 2020.
"I think we're looking at another election where Donald Trump wins by somewhere between 5 and 7 points, and Ted Cruz by around 2 to 4 points" noted Jones.
Republicans have not lost a statewide race in 30 years.
