Ryan Routh Formally Charged With Trump Assassination Attempt

Trying to show that they're not weaponized before the election, Federal prosecutors formally charged Ryan Routh with the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump.

According to reports, the Justice Department believes that Routh methodically plotted to kill Trump, aiming a rifle through the fence at Trump's West Palm Beach golf course on September 15th.

Routh tried to flee, but was quickly arrested during a traffic stop near Palm City, Florida. He remains in federal custody.

It's been just over two months since the first Trump assassination attempt, when a 20-year-old gunman climbed to the roof of a building on the perimeter of a Trump rally and opened fire, narrowly missing the former president just minutes into his speech.

A formal congressional hearing for that Secret Service mishap is scheduled to start on Thursday.
