More violence in the Houston ISD. A student was stabbed this morning, and right now Sterling High School is on lockdown.
HISD released a statement:
At approximately 10 a.m. today, two students at Sterling High School were involved in an altercation that resulted in one student being stabbed. In response to the situation, the school was promptly placed into lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were called to the scene, and school staff acted quickly to provide support to the injured student.
We can confirm that a suspect, also a student at Sterling High School, is in custody. The weapon involved has been confiscated and no other students were injured during this incident. At this time, we do not have additional information regarding the condition of the injured student.
Now that the lockdown has been lifted, students can be released to a parent or guardian. Parents and guardians who reported to the Morefield Boys and Girls Club Sunrise Center will be directed to the Sterling campus to pick up their student. Those who arrive at campus will register with staff onsite, and their student will be released. For students who are not picked up, the school day will resume as planned.
The school district is committed to working with law enforcement to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident. Our top priority remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure a safe learning environment.
This was not the only campus in the Houston area that was been placed on lockdown.
An Alief ISD high school was also placed on lockdown after a call of a student with a kitchen knife, according to the district.
The Alief ISD police responded to Elsik High School main campus. Once the suspect was taken into custody, the campus was then placed in “secure mode” and the instructional day continued.
