The Unpredicted Craziness of the 2024 Election Season May Not Be Over Yet

One theme for the 2024 election season could be 'expect the unexpected.'

We've already seen the incumbent president drop out of the race and have his vice president replace him without her receiving any Democratic primary votes and we've witnessed a former president and current presidential candidate nearly get assassinated while at one of his own campaign rallies. You can't forget too a lifelong Democrat who became and Independent and endorsed that Republican presidential candidate for president.

We've seen memorable events like this happen before during the election season too. Silvio Canto Jr., a contributor to the American Thinker, was reminded of two years in particular.

"Back in 1972, around this time we were in the Olympics and President Nixon was seeking re-election," Canto Jr. recalled. "All of a sudden, there was this terrible incident in the Olympics where these Israeli athletes were attacked and killed by some terrorists."

President Nixon's re-election chances were looking good already. His knowledge of foreign policy and leadership during that time helped him towards a 49-state domination, benefiting from the tragic events of the '72 games in Munich, Germany.

"It dominated the political conversation," said Canto Jr.

In 2004, the Beslan school shooting in Russia happened in the midst of another presidential election. That event sparked a conversation about who would defend the country against terrorism between George W. Bush and John Kerry.

Canto Jr. even mentioned 2008 when there was a banking crisis during the last 30 days of the campaign that possibly hurt John McCain in the election with Barack Obama.

Who knows what's going to happen with less than 60 days to go until election day. What happens after the election is certain to be significant too.

"My thinking is that there's going to be another surprise this year," said Canto Jr. "I couldn't tell you where it's going to come from but there's probably going to be one."
