There’s A Plan To Get Rid Of Texas Toll Roads

A group of Texas lawmakers is pushing back on a TxDOT plan to continue charging tolls, after the purchase of already existing toll lanes on Highway 288.

"They're saying they got a good deal and they're buying the road for less than what it would cost them to build" said Texas state senator, Mayes Middleton, "So that's great, but the problem is taxpayers having to continue to pay those tolls."

The whole of the 'tolls' is to pay for the toll road, so why continue charging if the road is already for? The bottom line is, all of the tolls across Texas are starting to take a toll on drivers.

"It's essentially become sort of a money-laundering operation, where Harris County Toll Road Authority is using tolls from roads that are already paid off, to be spent elsewhere" Middleton told KTRH, "And it's wrong."

And it is exactly the reason why the Republican Party of Texas is calling on the state legislature to abolish existing toll roads, and prohibit future construction.
