Republicans sense gain in support from Latino voters

The GOP is seeing gains in support among Latino voters in recent years.

Democrats have long brought in a majority of the Latino vote. In 2016, then candidate Hillary Clinton won the Latino vote by 27 points in Texas over Trump. That figure dropped by 10 points for Biden in 2020.

So what's changed?

Some Latino voters believe the Democrat Party has shifted too far to the left and they don't represent the values that Latino people hold closest to them. They feel gravitated to Donald Trump and the Republican Party.

American-Cuban Robert Gonzalez tells KTRH that Latino families and voters are starting to realize that the Democrats don't have their best interests in mind.

"We are pro-life, pro-God, pro-family and pro-America and this is not something in the Democrat Party," Gonzalez said. "They have gone far left and this does not resonate with Latino families."

Polls in Texas aren't showing kindly to Democrats either. Vice President Kamala Harris is polling worse among Latino voters in Texas than what Biden did a few years ago and Trump is doing much better compared to 2020.

The Biden-Harris bad policies have turned off a lot of Latino voters across the country. The wide open southern border and the high cost of living are just some of the many things people are dealing with under the Biden-Harris administration. Gonzalez says he knows a lot of people like him who feel the same way and have made up their mind on who's getting their vote this November.

"I don't know an American-Cuban personally and I know a lot of them that aren't voting anything but Republican," he said.

Maria Espinoza, Co-founder and Vice-President of The Remembrance Project Advocacy, Inc. based in Houston, Texas, said a big factor for her in supporting Trump this election year is due to the Democrat Party becoming anti-family.

"The Democrat party believes that a boy can be a boy today and a girl tomorrow," she said. "They believes it’s ok for a young man to enter the young ladies’ dressing room and that men can compete in women's sports."

She too is disgusted at what's been happening with the U.S. southern border allowing millions of illegal aliens enter the country.

Biden-Harris has left our border wide-open to the entire world, and is forcing our families to support the illegal aliens," Espinoza said." We do not want to support illegal aliens when we can barely support our own families."
