Google Facing The Aftermath Of Antitrust Ruling

Now that a federal court has ruled that Google's search engine is a monopoly, questions are being raised about how the company will respond. As of now, the future of their monopoly has yet to be officially determined.

Internet and privacy attorney Travis Crabtree told KTRH, "What is the remedy? Will that be a breakup? Will that be a required divestment of something? A change of behavior? That all will be determined starting in September."

Crabtree says, thanks to the appeals process, we probably won't see anything finalized anytime soon. He said, "This is really phase one of the monopoly finding, so it may take another couple of years to determine what is the appropriate remedy as a result of this finding."

Crabtree says that in addition to whatever action the courts decide to take, Congress will also likely have some form of legislative response.
