The border crisis has hit South Texas harder than anywhere else, and now the traditionally Democrat Hispanics who live there are becoming more open to voting for Republican candidates. In short, the Democrat party is leaving its more traditional members behind.
Retired Border Patrol Agent and candidate for Starr County Sheriff Alberto Olivares told KTRH, "Hispanics are conservative people. We praise God, we want to protect our children, we believe in strong family values, we want to defend the border, and support our police officers."
Olivares says people are starting to realize that the Democrat party doesn't really align with those values. He says because of that, voters are "being more open-minded. And they're willing to ask themselves, 'Who's gonna represent me better?'"
Olivares says that when it's time to start voting, people should think about the candidates and what they stand for and believe in.
