Texas Executes Arthur Lee Burton For 1997 Murder Of Houston Mother of 3

Arthur Lee Burton, the Texas man who killed a female jogger near her home in Houston in 1997, was executed tonight in the state penitentiary in Huntsville.

Nancy Adleman, a 48-year old mother of three was brutally beaten and strangled with her own shoelace in a heavily wooded area off a jogging trail along a bayou, police said.

Arthur Lee Burton, 54 received a lethal injection and was pronounced dead at 6:47pm.

Hours before the scheduled injection time, the U.S. Supreme Court declined a defense request to intervene after lower courts had previously rejected Burton’s request for a stay.

Burton's lawyers tried to argue that he had an intellectual disability, but an expert for the Harris County DA’s Office said that he had not seen any evidence Burton suffered from a significant deficit in intellectual or mental capabilities.

Burton was the third inmate put to death this year in Texas.
