Get Ready For More of The Same In Mexico

Mexico has a new president. Claudia Sheinbaum's administration looks like it will be more of the same leftist policies pushed by her predecessor, or maybe worse. If that's the case, then this recent election in Mexico could have massive impacts on Texas.

Joshua Trevino, Chief of Intelligence and Research at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, said, "The United States, and Texas in particular, has to face the reality that it's going to have to secure the border without a partner in the Mexican state."

Trevino says that's going to mean playing more political hardball with Mexico. He said, "We cannot cooperate with Mexico on the basis of assumed goodwill and partnership. We're going to have to create facts on the ground, and we are going to have to create hard incentives for them to cooperate out of material self-interest."

Trevino says that ensuring that Mexico is a good neighbor and partner should be a central part of our foreign policy moving forward.
