The White House is speaking on an incident in which a group of migrants rushed past Texas National Guard troops at the U.S.-Mexico border in El Paso.
Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre pointed the finger at Republicans, for killing a bipartisan border deal negotiated by a group of senators. She argued the bill would have surged more resources and personnel to the border and help mitigate the flow of illegal immigrants.
The incident comes amid a growing rift between Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the federal government.
The Texas National Guard is under the control of the state government, which is seeking to expand local control of immigration enforcement.
