US House Passes Bill that Could Ban TikTok

Congress is making their move on the Chinese-owned social media giant TikTok.

Bipartisan legislation that would require it to be sold to an American company or be shut down passed the House by a wide margin. It will now go to the Senate for review.

Opponents of the bill are claiming that this is an infringement of free speech, but Congressman Mike Gallagher (R-WI) told Fox News, "This bill is squarely focused on foreign adversary control: China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran, of a social media app that's this influential."

Critics of the bill are also concerned that it could have adverse effects on the small businesses that use TikTok to promote their products and services, but Gallagher says this bill should be viewed as a surgical procedure that will "separate the tumor from the patient and thereby save it. Thus, all those small businesses that are concerned will still be able to use the platform, so long as we separate the platform from Chinese Communist Party control."
