TX Early Voting Period is Underway

With the March 5th Texas Primary now just 2 weeks away, today is the first day of early voting.

As for the ballot, it starts at the top with the presidential races, but there are some important races locally.

"Here in the Houston area, we're seeing the Republican civil war in full force" said Rice University Political Science Professor, Mark Jones, referring to the battle's between state representatives backed by Governor Greg Abbott, and those endorsed by AG Ken Paxton.

There's also the race for Sherriff in Harris County. For the Democrats, it's all about the D.A., and Kim Ogg vs. Sean Teare, along with the race for U.S. Senator, and who will get to face off with Ted Cruz in November.

The ballots will be longer, and since it's Republicans voting for Republicans, and Democrats selecting Democrats, it's important to do your homework.

"Take a look at your sample ballot and do a little research on some of those down-ballot candidates" Jones told KTRH, "These primaries are actually in many ways, more important than the November election because more things are decided within the Democratic and Republican primaries, than in November."

Early voting runs through March 1st, with the polls open from 7am - 7pm. Galveston County locations open at 8am.
