Netflix and other streaming subscription services are seeing declining subscribers. Pay TV is also seeing customer losses in the US - and worldwide trends appear to be headed lower as well.
Higher costs are probably behind some of the losses, but are there other factors in play?
Joshua Starnes, Critic with Vital Thrills says there are several factors involved - including the loss of subscribers and significant revenue shortfalls from subscribers that have impacted revenues paid to some sports teams for the rights to broadcast certain sporting events.
Starnes thinks that some steaming and pay tv services may seek to bundle their offerings in a effort to retain subscribers in a very competitive field.
