Chip Roy Among No Votes for New Republican-Proposed Government Funding Plan

Congressional Republicans have proposed a two-step funding process to keep the federal government from closing. It's called a "laddered continuing resolution."

In an announcement Saturday House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana outlined two funding deadlines that would be established.

Four appropriations bills for agriculture, energy, veterans affairs and housing would have a January 19 deadline.

The remaining eight bills would extend a second deadline to February 2.

Congressman Chip Roy of Texas says he will be among the "no" votes.

Congress has until Friday to avert a government shut down.
