The House will start the week without a new Speaker. But that might change tomorrow.

Ohio's Jim Jordan is said to be anywhere from 15 to 19 votes short of the 217 he needs to take over for Kevin McCarthy. Jordan was nominated on Friday after Louisiana's Steve Scalise withdrew from consideration. Scalise was also unable to get to 217 votes.

As of now, the House is expected to vote on Jordan's nomination tomorrow.

Democrats are planning to nominate Minority leader Hakim Jeffries, who told Meet The Press on NBC that his side has held "informal conversations" with moderate Republicans.

A Jeffries Speakership would effectively give Democrats control of the House, even though they have the minority. Democrats already control the Presidency and Senate.
