Police Chief Troy Finner says at an apartment complex on Bennington Street in northeast Houston around 9pm Friday a teenage suspect was fatally shot by an officer who has been placed on administrative leave as per protocol.
The officer says the 17 or 18 year old pointed an assault rifle at him and he responded.
Police monitoring social media had been alerted to a gathering a teenagers in the 6700 block of Bennington Street late Friday and sent a patrol.
At a press conference Chief Finner said he spoke with witnesses. "“I talked to our officer as well, and people think that we’re just not human. We are, and he’s hurting because we protect and we serve. We don’t sign up to shoot people and that’s the truth,”
The group of teenagers were taken to police headquarters downtown for questioning. The group was in possession of at least five weapons.
The male body was taken to the Medical Examiners Office for identification.
