Former President Donald Trump wasn't on stage for last night's GOP debate in California, but his presence loomed large.
Several of the candidates on the debate stage last night called him out, specifically Ron DeSantis and Chris Christie. The former New Jersey Governor went as far as to call him "Donald Duck."
But one strategist says that is why Trump was the biggest winner last night.
"They kept saying he should be here to defend his record. He should be here to debate. He should be here to face the people," Kellyanne Conway said on Fox. "Why would you want him there?"
Conway also thought the debate was lacking something without Trump.
"I thought it was a little flat. Everybody had a good moment. But moments will not overtake a frontrunner leading by 40 points," Conway said.
