Sheriff: Colony Ridge is overwhelmed with crime and drug overdoses

Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader says his department is overwhelmed with crime and drug overdoses at a massive settlement of illegal aliens north of Houston known as Colony Ridge.

Earlier this morning Rader told KTRH's Michael Berry show that just three of his deputies and a handful of Texas DPS troopers are able to patrol the settlement at any one time.

"I've heard rumors that the cartel is buying up these houses," Rader said. "We don't have any access. If they don't break the law we don't know about it. We can't go and knock on doors and ask if people are doing it. It's a problem. It's a big, big problem."

In response, Gov. Greg Abbott says he plans to add Colony Ridge to next month's special session.

He told iHeartRadio host Dana Loesch that subpoenas were issued for financial records of the developers, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality also is investigating what has turned into a large settlement of illegals, north of Houston.

"We're trying to put together as much information as possible, so I can add to the special session any issue that needs to be enforced, in terms of a new law in the state of Texas, to make sure that we're not going to have colonies like this in our state," said Abbott.
