Higher new home prices and the rising costs of repair for a current home are pushing homeowners to go online and learn how to fix things themselves . Contractor All Star Home's spokeswoman Emily Thornton: Being able to just do it yourself doesn't only give you a sense of accomplishment - but it also Saves You Money!" HGTV and online sites are helpful and encouraging...But they did find 20% who lost money . "Watching different shows may make it look easy --- but know that there are certain things are better left to those who do it for a living and really know how to do it!"
The advent of home repair, home construction and home design tv shows, make it all seem so simple. Americans are taking it to heart. Thornton says their study shows by using help from social media, homeowners are saving an average of $1,190 by DIY-ing repairs! The most common are painting, drywall repair and plumbing. She reiterates: "22% have actually made the problem worse by trying to do it themselves!"
