A New Pump in Sugar Land

A Sugar Land neighborhood where more than 500 homes flooded during Hurricane Harvey is unveiling a massive new pump just in time for the start of the 2023 Hurricane season. Commissioner Andy Meyers says, “As Commissioner of Fort Bend County Precinct 3, Safety and Security are critical priorities for me and my team. It is why I routinely visit our levees and participate in the levee inspection process. The installation of this pump is another example of how we prioritize safety and security in Fort Bend County.”

The pump, which moves 150,000 gallons of water per minute, goes online Friday in Sugar Land to protect the Riverstone neighborhood. It will work alongside a pre-existing pump that moves 80,000 gallons of water per minute.

“Nearly 600 homes in Riverstone flooded during the unprecedented rainfall of Hurricane Harvey. That event reinforced the importance of our levee systems and prompted these improvement,” adds Meyers.
