Just before noon on Sunday (1-22-2023) a single-engine plane was in trouble, losing power, and the pilot tried to accomplish an emergency landing on I-99, The Grand Parkway. During his decent, he clipped an 18-wheeler, then the wings struck the concrete embankments of the highway causing flames to erupt. Amazingly, no injuries were reported to either the pilot or to the truck driver according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.
DPS Public Information Officer Richard Standifer told reporters the Rosehill Tomball Fire Department arrived at the scene quickly enough to douse the flames. The plane (Bonanza 35 aircraft is registered in Michigan) was on a survey assignment. Traffic was stopped for hours - mostly both ways - because of the wait for National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration to arrive for their investigation.
Again - no injuries at all. No one taken to an area hospital. Amazing.
