2023 Texas Legislative Priorities

Texas has a $27 billion dollar surplus in the coffers to spend, and Lt. Governor Dan Patrick says the number one priority for lawmakers in 2023 will be lowering property taxes with homestead exemptions.

This past week he released a list of 21 issues he wants addressed. The top three are property tax relief, the state's electric grid, and border security.

Also on the list are increased border security, law enforcement, state investment in mental health facilities, school security, restoration of the Alamo, and tightening state election laws.

Patrick will also propose a bill to increase the state rainy day fund.
