Investigators Suspect Sabotage in Nord Stream Gas Pipeline Leak

Investigators in Sweden suspect sabotage when it comes to the recent leaks in the Nord Stream gas pipelines. They're not allowing the Russians to join them in their probe of last month's rupture of the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2. The underwater lines send natural gas from Russia to Germany.

Danish Authorities are also taking a closer look at the suspected sabotage. Four suspects have emerged: the United States, the European Union, Russia, and China. Foreign policy expert Gordon Chang believes it was Russia.

“Russia had been threatening to cut off the gas to Europe. I think they wanted to make a point that they could do this and that they were willing to go very far in starving Europe,” Chang explained.

However, terrorism expert Jeff Addicott believes the culprit is China.

“For a long time, the Chinese have been boasting about their military preparedness, and it’s not an idle boast,” Addicott said. “They do have the oceanographic technology and the means.”

Most experts do not believe the United States or the EU are responsible because neither has a motive. On September 26, 2022, officials in Denmark detected underwater activity in the Baltic Sea equivalent to a massive TNT explosion.
