Visitors at the San Diego Zoo's Safari Park in California captured video recently of a dog trapped in the gorilla enclosure.
Some footage showed the dog standing with its back to a gorilla just before it threw dirt at the canine. The dog disappeared over a stone wall as the gorilla rushed over to where it had been standing.
Another video showed the dog darting past the gorilla, who came running after it.
“Go! Run, run, run!” a person yelled at the dog, who disappeared behind a wall before the gorilla could catch up.
The San Diego Humane Society responded to the park and shared video footage of an officer with the dog. “Hello! What are you doing in here?” someone behind the camera asked the canine as it wagged its tail. An officer spoke gently to the creature and gently slipped a leash around his neck before offering a treat.
Later, the zoo reported that a couple of dogs had wandered into the park, and one jumped into the gorilla habitat. Zookeepers called two gorillas out of the habitat so the dog could be rescued.
The Humane Society says the dog, who they've named "Mighty Joe Young," got a checkup from vets.
