Police say it appears the bodies of two people reported missing last month have been found in New Caney.
According to officials, two men riding four-wheelers came upon one body, and that led to finding another in the trunk of a vehicle in a nearby wooded area.
Roman Forest Police Chief Stephen Carlisle told reporters, “Preliminary information leads us to believe that the bodies belong to the couple that was reported missing on May 25. The female is thought to be Megan Madison Leach, a 19-year-old female, and the other body which has not yet been positively identified is believed to belong to the registered owner of the vehicle.”
Officers called to the scene Sunday morning near Fairway Drive and Putters Green found the first body to be in the late stages of decomposition.
As more agencies arrived at the scene, including deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, a blue BMW was found in the woods nearby. Leach’s body was in the car's trunk.
A long gun was reportedly found on the ground near the vehicle.
Authorities say it's believed Leach and the unidentified person were in a relationship, however it was also thought Leach could have been a victim of human trafficking. Investigators say the couple was last seen in the vehicle found.
The causes of the pair's deaths remains unknown, but the bodies were taken to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsies.
