Ghosts and UFO's: Rice University Seminar on the Paranormal

The vaults of knowledge are being opened to the public with Rice University’s “Opening the Archives of the Impossible.”

Paranormal is loosely defined as things that happen in the real world that can’t be scientifically explained. Rice University is bringing the world’s top scholars, researchers and writers together for the three-day conference that will examine such incongruous topics as UFO’s and talking with dead people.

Incongruous?

“I think what is so mind-boggling about this is that those things are, in fact, probably connected. The UFO and the afterlife are probably connected,” says Rice University’s Dr. Jeffrey Kripal, the J. Newton Rayzor Chair in Philosophy and Religious Thought, who organized the international gathering of brilliant minds. To grasp the inner-relationship, you'll have to attend. For three days, highly complex conversations are arranged about topics of impossibly connected ideas, about understanding what isn’t understood. Rice University has been adding to its library of research and documentation of the world of the paranormal for years, and this is a rare opportunity for everyday people to peek inside and see what academia actually knows, and thinks, about things that have fascinated the human mind since creation. Are ghosts real? Last year the U.S. government acknowledged they have been studying Unidentified Flying Objects, but what do we really know about other dimensions of space, time or travel? If you can imagine getting some of the smartest people on the planet together to detail what is known and what is unknowable then you have a gauge of what the event promises.

It has become so captivating that all in-person seats are claimed for the eight-session conference and viewing is limited to online experiences.
