UTHealth Houston is opening up a new psychiatric hospital that will serve the 29 contiguous counties around Houston. The $126,000,000 John S. Dunn Behavioral Science Center will have 264 beds. Officials say it will improve patient care with more than a one-size-fits-all treatment approach.
Texas Health and Human Services teamed up with UTHealth Houston on the new hospital. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Wednesday.
The new facility will start accepting patients next month.
It's the first new public psychiatric hospital in Texas in 25 years.
