Winter Weather Advisory begins 2pm today for Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery, Wharton, Waller, Walker, Trinity and San Jacinto counties through 9 am Friday.
Look at the bright side: you’re in the southeastern part of Texas and Dallas could see a wind chill of minus zero today: it could be worse, and you could be in the Metroplex.
But it will be cold today, though not that bone-numbing chill we are all recollecting from last February when power went out for residents across the state and hundreds died. There is cold and there is last years’ cold, and we are not expecting that. Last year areas of Texas had freezing cold for ten days straight. We’ll do a couple days in the upper 20’s and low 30’s.
Freezing rain and ice pellets can’t be ruled out in the greater Houston area this afternoon, most of that expected in neighborhoods to the north and west of the city proper, but the high by Saturday will be around 50 so this isn’t long-term.
Texas Dot has treated the roads. Flyover, bridges that cross water and overpasses are the most likely roadways to freeze and have been the areas Tex-Dot is focused on. Danny Perez says their most important message is “Know before you go,” and KTRH is here for you. Check the traffic conditions before you get behind the wheel. For Houston roads check traffic.houstontranstar.org or statewide you can get road conditions at drivetexas.org.
