We are finally starting to feel normal again, reflected in ticket sales to live concerts, movie theaters, performances and events.
A survey by Bankrate finds 61% of US adults are going to a show between now and the end of the year, or at least hope to. That compares with 51% who were willing to step foot into a theater in the first nine months of this year.
Whether looking at events like the Texas Renaissance Festival, or concerts including Willie Nelson, or going to see James Bond, or singing classical music at the top of your lungs – live shows are back, and Jim Nelson with the Houston Theater District says we are on pace to be normal. “Now as we move into The Nutcracker sales are going very well. We’re pacing as we would in a non-Covid year.”
All of those traditions – the Fourth of July at Eleanor Tinsely, a concert at Mitchell Pavilion, a World Series game, fans are in the stands again and filling up theaters. “Houston Ballet’s The Nutcracker, the Alley Theater’s A Christmas Carol, the Houston Symphony has holiday programming including the Messiah,” says Jim Nelson, ticking off the treats in store for fans of the Theater District.
Trans Siberian Orchestra is coming to Toyota Center for the holiday on December 12. The classic Country act Alabama performs there November 7. Willie Nelson will be at 713 Music Hall November 17.
And the Houston Symphony Orchestra is back at Jones Hall tonight and through the weekend.
