The heavy rain system in the Gulf of Mexico is now Tropical Storm Claudette.
The third named Atlantic storm of the season made landfall in southern Louisiana.
The National Hurricane Center says Claudette has maximum sustained winds of 45 miles-per-hour and is causing dangerous flooding along the central Gulf Coast.
The storm is expected to dump up to ten inches of rain, with possible amounts of 15 inches, from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
Forecasters are warning of flash flooding, storm surge and possible tornadoes.
