He said he was going to do it, and he did.
On Friday Texas Governor Greg Abbott followed through on his threat and vetoes the portion of the state budget that pays legislators, their staff and legislative agencies.
In a statement the governor said funding should not be provided to those who leave the job early.
Democrats in the Texas House left the capitol one-by-one in the waning hours of the legislature’s session at the end of May, breaking quorum before a vote could be taken on Abbott’s prioritized SB 7 election integrity bill.
Abbott has called for two special sessions this year: one to apportion new boundaries for state and federal districts once 2020 Census figures are finalized, and a second to tend to unfinished business from the regular session.
