POLL QUESTION: A missed opportunity for Texas?

Nearly six-out-ten Texans support some form of gambling in the state, yet bills to legalize casino gaming and sports betting stalled again the state legislature.

Las vegas sands spent at least $3 million to lobby a statewide vote on four casino resorts in Texas' largest cities.

“More of the conservative members have reservations, but this was the first time that we had bipartisan support,” says Sen. Carol Alvarado, D-Houston. “The political landscape certainly is one that I think for this type of legislation it's going to take a little bit of time.”

Rep. Joe Deshotel, D-Beaumont, believes Las Vegas Sands is just getting started.

“I don't believe they ever felt they were going to pass casino gambling this session,” he says. “But they certainly wanted to get out on the forefront and get people talking about it, use the interim to build support.”

That leads us to the poll question this morning.
