The Longhorn Band will continue performing "The Eyes of Texas," at sporting events, but the university is creating a new band for anyone who opposes the song.
The new band is expected to be formed before the 2022 fall semester and will not be required to play the school song.
The new band does plan to provide scholarships and will waive participation fees for band members.
The university says it will honor any rising seniors scholarship for those who want to opt out of the Longhorn Band.
The school's study concluded the song began as part of a minstrel show performed by white actors in Black face, but that the song itself is not racist.
