Conservative Groups Support Chick-fil-A in Texas Supreme Court Case

Conservative groups are asking the state's highest court to stop San Antonio from attacking Christian businesses like Chick-fil-A.

The Texas Supreme Court will soon hear from San Antonio representatives about why the city council banned the popular fast food chain from the San Antonio International Airport in March of 2019. Christian groups accuse the city of religious discrimination, saying city officials didn’t like Chick-fil-A being closed on Sundays, or the chain’s donating to faith-based organizations like the Salvation Army.

“The reason there’s a lawsuit, is because you have individuals from the city of San Antonio that have a concern about the way Christian businesses are treated. All of those small business that don’t have the voice some others like Chick-fil-A have, they stand to gain and also be protected with the success of this case,” Jonathan Saenz, the president of Texas Values, said.

In February, Texas Values submitted a legal amicus brief, similar to one by Governor Greg Abbott.

The state's high court is expected to hear from San Antonio’s lawyers in March, but it may take months until the Texas Supreme Court explains how they’ll move forward.
