Back in the day, Republicans were looked upon as the party for the wealthy and elite, while the Democrats connected as the party for the people. Now, it has completely flipped. A new survey shows that Republicans are becoming the party of blue-collar Americans. Texas Republican national committeeman Dr. Robin Armstrong told KTRH he's not surprised. "I'm not, it's the Trump affect. He really has positioned our party as the party of the workers which is exactly where we should be. Our party has always supported the working class. It's just that the perception has been that we don't." The survey shows the GOP gained 12 percentage points with working class Americans between 2010 and 2020, while the Democrats dropped 8 points. Armstrong says Trump aside, the Democrats have done it to themselves, "The Democrat party has abandoned the middle class, they've become a party of rich coastal elites and that's really who they're supporting now." And Armstrong adds that 'base' has been flocking to the Republican party which saw huge gains last year with black and hispanic voters, and he expects that momentum to continue over the next 4 years. "I think we'll continue to move in that direction because Trump is not going anywhere. We just have to stick with the 'America first' agenda."
