How The City & County Are Using Race When It Comes To Who Gets Vaccinated

As the Covid vaccine rollout continues here in Houston, the city and the county have come up with plan to help out with the process. They have picked the zip codes for those who get to cut to the front of the line. Coincidentally, or not, the neighborhoods are based on race, and more importantly, they are all Democrat strongholds. Political consultant Jared Woodfill told KTRH, it's an outrage! "It's shocking, folks in Harris County and really across the state of Texas should be outraged at what Judge Lina Hidalgo and Mayor Sylvester Turner are doing." And Woodfill says that is because, "clearly if you look at the zip codes we're talking about, not only is the program based on race, it's partisan." Put another way, Woodfill points out, "If they were to choose River Oaks or Tanglewood as the targeted zip codes that got to go first in line, the whole city, county, and state would be in an uproar! the whole country would be in an uproar!" And while the long lines continue at NRG, Woodfill says now is the time to speak up. "It's for people to say no, we should have a wait list that doesn't consider what your race is, doesn't consider what your party affiliation is, or doesn't consider what your zip code is." Woodfill says what the plan should be based on? "It considers one thing, and one thing alone. Are you in a high risk category?"
