Houston is off to a violent start in 2021, with police investigating an average of more than one murder a day.
Houston police are reporting 50 homicide cases in the first 42 days of the year.
There were 409 homicides in Houston last year. If the current pace continues, that number will be topped.
Harris County homicide detectives are off to a busy start this year as well, with 16 murders so far in 2021.
If it continues, that pace will also eclipse last year's total of 124 homicides.
