A Katy Army officer from is among the fatalities announced by the Pentagon Saturday morning.
Captain Seth Vernon Vandecamp was one of the six American soldiers who died Thursday when their helicopter crashed during a routine training exercise in the Sinai Peninsula as part of a multinational peacekeeping force.
According to the US Army, the other American victims include Chief Warrant Officer 3 Dallas Gearld Garza, 34, from Fayetteville, North Carolina; Chief Warrant Officer 2 Marwan Sameh Ghabour, 27, from Marlborough, Massachusetts; Staff Sgt. Kyle Robert McKee, 35, from Painesville, Ohio, and Sgt. Jeremy Cain Sherman, 23, from Watseka, Illinois.
A French and a Czech soldier were also killed.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway but the Army says they do not suspect foul play.
