The danger posed by discovery of a brain-eating amoeba found in the water supply has been narrowed to Lake Jackson. An alert had been sent to all customer of Brazosport Water Authority but TCEQ now says the Brazosport water supply is safe to drink. The advisory continues for Lake Jackson residents who are advised not to consumer or use water for anything except flushing toilets..

A “Do Not Use the Water” advisory is issued to residents in the following areas:
Lake Jackson, Freeport, Angleton, Brazoria, Richwood, Oyster Creek, Clute, Rosenberg, Dow Chemical, TDCJ Clemens and TDCJ Wayne Scott.
Around 9 Friday night the Brazosport Water Authority notified customers they had discovered Naegleria fowleri, a brain-eating amoeba, in the water.
TCEQ is working with state and local officials to resolve the problem as quickly as possible, but until further notice residents are warned to not consume any water from a tap. Do not use the water to brush teeth, bath, or shower. The water can be used to flush toilets.
The water ban will remain in effect until the system has been flushed and officials deem it safe to drink.
