Texans have good reason to feel some state pride. A new survey ranks the Lone Star State as one of the hardest working in America.
Texans aren't afraid to roll up their sleeves and get to work. A WalletHub report ranks Texas the fourth hardest-working state. The personal finance website weighed a variety of factors, including number of hours worked and how much time employees took off. Analyst Jill Gonzalez says many Texans have been hesitant to take a vacation amid the pandemic.
“With coworkers getting furloughed or laid off, I think the people that are lucky enough to still have a job certainly don’t want to look less dedicated now more than ever,” Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez says North Dakota ranked number one due to agricultural workers' long hours. The survey also finds Texans in big cities like Houston spend a lot of time in traffic. Texas only ranks 14th in average work commute time.
