The city of Houston has closed a number of roads for the day’s Fourth of July festivities taking place downtown. Shell Freedom Over Texas is being held virtually this year and is being broadcasts on KTRH Channel 13 TV.
In a written statement Mayor Sylvester Turner said, “The city of Houston will celebrate freedom this year, but out of an abundance of caution during the COVID-19 pandemic, we want people to stay home and watch the fireworks. The virtual celebration will include a dazzling display of red, white, and blue as we reflect on the history of our country and the challenging events of 2020. Let us never forget what it means to be in the land of the free and the home of the brave. We are #HoustonStrong.”
