The city says weather is delaying the opening of COVID-19 test sites until Noon. This includes the Sunnyside mobile site.
The experts say we are 12-18 months away from getting a vaccine for the COVID-19 virus. Dr, Peter Hotez joined Houston's Morning News on KTRH and explained that one reason there is no vaccine yet is because it keeps doing things researchers aren't expecting it to do. Some Texas businesses will be allowed to re-open on Friday, but Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough is taking that a step further.
Keough told our TV partner Channel 2 he's letting all businesses open their doors Friday.
"The Governor needs to say that these businesses need to be closed until further notice. The order does not say that. It says that people shall avoid these businesses," Keough explained.
Under Governor Abbott's executive order, hair salons, gyms and bars can't open yet, and won't be able to until at least May 18th.
Elsewhere:
- Malls open on Friday including the Houston Premium Outlets, the Galleria and Katy Mills Mall. Deerbrook, Willowbrook, Baybrook, First Colony and The Woodlands Mall are sticking with curbside pickup for now.
- Restaurants will be re-opening Friday by Goode Company says they are holding off until they test all employees for COVID-19. They could re-open next week.
- Although movie theaters will be allowed to re-open, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema says they won't.
- The owner of Gringo’s Mexican Kitchen, Jimmy Changas and The Lunch Box is suing their insurance company for not covering their losses during the pandemic.
- There were fifteen deaths in the Greater Houston area yesterday to bring the total to 211. Texas reported 53 deaths to bring the state's total to 719.
- HEB gets rid of purchasing limits on like eggs, rice, toilet paper and paper towels. There are still limits on hand sanitizer and other disinfectants.
- The Astros could have an announcement on refund policies this week. Major League Baseball has not offered refund yet, but reports say that could change.
