Congress and the White House have reached a deal on a two-trillion dollar relief package aimed at giving an economic shot in the arm to the US. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the announcement from the Senate floor...
"This is a wartime level of investment into our nation. The men and women of the greatest country on earth are going to defeat this coronavirus and reclaim our future."
McConnell says it's going to expand unemployment benefits, and make money available to businesses struggling because of coronavirus.
"It will help secure our economic foundations and stabilize key national industries to prevent as many layoffs as possible, while keeping big companies accountable as both sides have sought to do."
The measure will also provide more money to hospitals and health care workers.
During the daily briefing from the White House 'Coronavirus Task Force' President Trump said he isn't backing down from his prediction of re-opening the US for business by mid-April...
"I said earlier (Tuesday) that I hoped we could do this by Easter. I think that would be a great thing for our country and we're all working very hard to make that a reality."
Globally there have been more than 423-thousand cases of COVID-19 and nearly 19-thousand deaths. There are over 55-thousand confirmed coronavirus cases in the US with over 800 deaths.
The full Senate is expected to vote on the relief measure today. The House takes it up Thursday or Friday.
