Check with your house of worship about their plans for Sunday services. Lakewood and several other churches are sharing their services online and will not have congregations in pews. Several mosques are cancelling Friday prayers and synagogues suspending Shabbat services. President Trump has declared today a National Day of Prayer.
Easter services at the Vatican next month will be held without the faithful in attendance. The services with Pope Francis usually draw tens of thousands to the Vatican from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday. The Vatican says until Easter Sunday on April 12th, the Pope's general audiences and Sunday blessings will continue to be shown on TV and on the internet without public participation.
Late Saturday Matagorda County reported their first case of presumptive coronavirus, a 60-year-old female who had been hospitalized with pneumonia symptoms.
As of Saturday there are 63 known cases in the Lone Star State, ten in Harris, nine in Ft. Bend, three in Montgomery Counties. There are two cases in Brazoria County.
There are now nearly three-thousand confirmed cases in the U.S. More than 50 people have died nationwide, many of them in Washington state. There are confirmed cases of COVID-19 in every state except West Virginia. More than 156-thousand people have been infected in 142 countries worldwide and the virus has killed over 58-hundred.
Some commercial trucking regulations are being waived in Texas so more supplies can get into trucks. Governor Greg Abbott announced the move Saturday. Abbott said in a statement the goal of the move is to make sure stores can keep items on their shelves amid the coronavirus outbreak.
Walmart and other retail giants are limiting their store hours because of the coronavirus. Walmart is announcing they are shortening hours at its 24-hour locations from 6am to 11pm, stores typically open until midnight also reducing hours.
HEB changed their hours yesterday to 8am to 8pm until further notice.
Kroger, as of yesterday, the hours at all locations will be 7am to 10pm - that includes 24 hour stores.
Randalls - effective today - the hours are from 7 am to 9 pm.
Fiesta from 9am to 8pm.
The stores say they are reducing their hours to ensure they can thoroughly clean the stores and restock the shelves.
Harris County will open two mobile coronavirus test sites this week, County Judge Lina Hidalgo saying FEMA will assist in operations. According to the city’s Director of Medical Services, Dr. David Perrse, they will be staffed by Houston area hospital staff.
President Trump’s coronavirus test came back negative. He was tested Friday night after having come in contact with people who had received positive tests.
