Home of Texas A&M, College Station is the 6th in the country at luring new home owners. Tricia Harte, speaking on behalf of 55places, says the numbers are interesting. "39.2 % of College Station homeowners purchased their homes within the last 10 years. That's relatively new home ownership - especially when you think how long home ownership can be." College Station Realtor Cherry Ruffino has an idea why. "After our market somewhat crashed in 2008, there was an overabundance of homes for sale. Values ended up holding for 2-3 years and it made us an affordable market for buyers." She says it's a vibrant place to live for many age groups and it's easy to travel to 4 major metropolitan areas.
Ruffino continues, "Everybody would love to have a new home - but many people have not been able to buy one because the prices were out of their range. Now with the development of more affordable homes - we are attracting a lot of first time home buyers." Ruffino also says the influence of a major university also adds to the attraction of the city..
