Have we become what the Framers feared?

Our partisan divide keeps getting bigger, leading some to think we have become what our Founding Fathers hoped to avoid.

Lee Drutman is a Senior Fellow at New America, and author of 'The Business of America Is Lobbying: How Corporations Became Politicized and Politics Became More Corporate.' He says the real reason for this is a two party political system that's gone out of control.

"It is the culmination of a long realignment of the party system, along, geographic, cultural and identity lines," Drutman said.

Historian Terry Madonna told KTRH the divide may be the worst than we've seen in over a century.

"Some of my colleagues believe you have to go back to the Civil War. We are deeply polarized in ways that we have not seen," Madonna explained.

And if you think it's going to get any better, Madonna just doesn't see it.

"I don't think we are going to have the polarization end anytime soon," Madonna stated, adding that it might take some major event like 9/11 to bring us together again.
