Court records show that accused cop killer Tavores Henderson is being charged with capital murder in the killing of Nassau Bay Police Sgt. Kaila Sullivan earlier this week.
There was initially outrage expressed when bond was set for Henderson on Friday for $150K . Houston Police Officers Union President Joe Gamaldi told KTRH's Michael Berry that was too low for a cop killer.
"We finally catch him. We finally get him into custody. We breathe a sigh off relief. And then we find out that he gets $150 thousand bond. He needed to be no-bonded," Gamaldi said.
He also said that if not for Montgomery County D.A. Brett Ligon and a previous charge in Galveston County, Henderson might have been able to get out.
"Thank God for Brett Ligon. He worked it last night to make sure those bonds were revoked on him so he could not get out," Gamaldi said.
This is just the latest in a long line of issues with bonds that law enforcement has had since Democrats swept judicial elections in Harris County last year.
When Henderson appeared this morning before a judge in Harris County Probable Cause courtroom the charge was upgraded from felony murder to capital murder and bond was not allowed.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales, Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo has expressed outrage when a bond of $150,000 had been set.
